Task 3: The Importance of communication skills for engineers

Dear Professor Brad,

Please read my opinion at the bottom for the following quote:

“Employers identify communication as one of the basic competencies every
a graduate should have, asserting that the ability to communicate is valuable for
obtaining employment and maintaining successful job performance.”Sherwyn Morreale, Michael Osborn & Judy Pearson, Professors of Communication (2000)
I unanimous agree with the quote because communicating with one another is part and parcel of life with all walk of life. No matter the industry we are in, a graduate should be equipping themselves with effective communication skills. Employers will assert the ability to communicate effectively with others as valuable due to it is an important factor no matter the role the employee might be in. In modern times, there are many forms of communication. However, the basic forms of communication (how a person communicate effectively the ideas through thinking, writing and speaking) are still applicable when communicating from people to people with relation to a channel of the platform and the targeted audience group.
Communication is even more essential in industries that are more technical as when presenting the idea or product out of the technical field to the public or potential customers we need to effectively translate to make it understandable in layman terms to deliver the message across.
I feel that effective communication skills boost the chances of obtaining employment and subsequent maintaining a successful job performance. As there are many interview graduates will have to encounter once in the working world that make-or-breaks the chances of you getting the desired job if you are not good at communicating despite meeting the qualifications or having the require skills-set to operate on the job. However, effective communication that comes overnight. It requires meeting different people with different level of authority and how you should communicate to them that is suitable to present your ideas on the professional level.
Overall, I believe that communication is an essential skill that is useful in character development. I am deeply convinced that effective communication can increase productivity and useful in conveying the desired message across to the recipient. It is a skill that all of us should aim to consistently immerse ourselves in.

Best Regards,

Formal Email of Self-Introduction

Dear Professor Brad, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as a student in the TLM1010 course.  My name is Roy Yong Jin Yao, currently an undergraduate pursuing a degree in Telematics in Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).  I had graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) with a diploma in mechatronics engineering specialised in automation. I was able to gain an overview understanding of engineering through this diploma during my time in NYP. My passion for engineering was sparked by curiosity and a challenge to myself to understand more about how the hardware and software are linked to complete machine function. Although the learning curve for the fundamentals of engineering was steep, the curiosity grew even deeper. During my polytechnic Final Year Project (FYP) I was tasked to write a set of programming in myRIO and a training guide regarding it for our machine to operate with records from seniors who have created something similar. I was exposed to many
